The Next Step

Friends,

We just wanted to take a moment to thank each of you personally for your generosity, faithfulness and selflessness over the past several months. I know that Wyatt and Abby considered each of you a blessing in an area of great need. They were able to spend such sweet time together in the last months of Wyatt’s life due in large part to you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

As you know, Wyatt passed away last week after a long battle with cancer. The memorial service was bittersweet, beautiful and honoring. As Wyatt would have liked, we had some laughs, but we also shed a lot of tears. The good news is that the Lord promises joy in the midst of sorrow, peace in the midst of grief and redemption in the midst of suffering. We witnessed that first-hand this weekend, and we hope you have found the same.

As we have had the opportunity to speak with Abby, she is currently planning to live in Thomasville for the foreseeable future. She has a great community there, who love her unconditionally and relentlessly, and we are so thankful for them. They have been more than we could have ever asked or imagined for her.

We did want to make this our last post for this blog as a way of bringing closure. If you would like, there is still an opportunity to donate to the Wyatt Mitchell Medical Project through Helping Hands. Even though Wyatt has passed, the medical expenses related to his treatment and funeral are still very real. Should you be interested in continuing to contribute, a group of us will continue monthly contributions for the next 6 months, at a minimum. We hope that will cover medical bills that continue to arrive and will give Abby some time to apply for teaching jobs without panic. To be clear, we do not expect anyone to donate, as your generosity has been incredible already. We would, however, be remiss without letting you know of this opportunity to take care of a friend in the most literal biblical sense.

As you will read, the news is unfortunate. Today, we have the opportunity to continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus to Abby and Wyatt through our prayers and the Wyatt Mitchell Medical Project. You have been so faithful, and Wyatt and Abby have been incredibly grateful for your generosity. Please consider continuing to give to Helping Hands for Wyatt and Abby to continue to meet them in an area of need. Let us continue to give selflessly on a monthly basis. Today is the day of the Lord, let us rejoice and be glad in it, trusting him completely and giving ourselves up constantly for our friends. From Wyatt

I (Wyatt) just wanted to say hello to everyone and catch you up with what is going on.  So far there is no new medical news.  I am still just trucking along, waiting for something to happen.  Waiting is something that I have never been very good at, but over the past year and a half the Lord has taught us that we will wait, and we will wait some more.  Our timing does not always agree with His, and, at times, it is down right frustrating.  But we have always come through the situation, kicking ourselves for ever thinking that we knew better than our Father does.

I also wanted to tell you all specifically how overwhelmingly grateful we feel to all of you for your obedience to the Lord in giving to our fund through Helping Hands Ministry. Saints and angels. I can think of no better words than these to describe all of you who have given so generously to us. Each time Abby and I call and receive the update of the funds that are available for our medical needs through Helping Hands Ministry, we are completely blown away by your generosity and your hearts that are so obviously overflowing with love for Christ, as well as love for us. A simple thank you cannot do justice to how absolutely appreciative we are of every single one of y’all. On saying that, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. It literally brings me to tears when I think about your willingness to give so abundantly to such an undeserving man. You simply amaze me. As the bills continue to come almost daily, we feel so much comfort knowing that the Lord, our Provider, is watching over us, always making sure we, His beloved, are being taken care of.

Please keep your prayers coming. Each day is a complete mystery to us. And each day that we have together is an absolute blessing. We know we have a long way to go, but having the Lord leading the way and you by our sides helps the journey seem less scary. Thank you all again.

Medical Project Update 9.29

Friends,

I hope each of you is well and had a great weekend. What an amazing answer to prayer each of you has been. Between the prayers, financial gifts, words of encouragement and so many other ways you have loved the Mitchells, this past week has been evidence of God’s love expressed through you. Well done!

As you probably know, Wyatt’s birthday was difficult, but thankfully, he has been feeling better. We are all thankful for that. As we continue to look for ways to love Wyatt and Abby, we wanted to send another update, as we have gained further clarity on the need for Wyatt and Abby.

Last week, the Wyatt Mitchell Medical Project officially opened through Helping Hands (for further information, see previous post and/or visit www.hhmin.org), and we asked for your financial support of Wyatt and Abby. This weekend, we were able to determine that the actual need for Wyatt’s treatment is $2,000 per month. We are writing to you today to ask that you consider partnering with us to cover that entire cost on a monthly basis.

We obviously need friends and family from all walks of Wyatt and Abby’s life to join together in this endeavor, but would you prayerfully consider contributing monthly to the Wyatt Mitchell Medical Project in order to meet the ongoing need? How loud would the word of God be proclaimed, if we could love our friends in the area of their greatest need?

Support for Wyatt & Abby

Dear Friends,

We pray these words find you well. This is not Wyatt or Abby writing to you today. On behalf of some of Wyatt’s friends from college, we have asked for the opportunity to contact you for your help in a vital role during this difficult battle against synovial-cell sarcoma.

First, thank you for your prayers, phone calls, text messages, letters of support, gifts and many other ways you have loved the Mitchells. They have been blown away by the support and love that friends, family and perfect strangers have shown them. Christ has been made tangible through you.

Besides the above, we have all been asking, “What else can we do to best support our dear friends?” Please continue to pray above all. Additionally, there is a new opportunity that has come up to support Abby and Wyatt. Through an organization called Helping Hands, Abby and Wyatt will be able to accept financial contributions tax free.  This organization is an IRS approved 501-C(3) non-profit that acts as a receiver and distributer of charitable gifts to people in need. It was founded by Terry Parker, who started the National Christian Foundation, in order to facilitate Christian charity through the gifting of tax-exempt donations to those in need.

Through Helping Hands we have created the Wyatt Mitchell Medical Project. This allows you to give a gift, which will go directly toward Wyatt’s continued medical treatment costs, is tax-deductible to you and does not create a tax liability for Wyatt and Abby. Additionally, Abby and Wyatt can use this towards other treatment costs (i.e. travel and medical services not covered by insurance). What a blessing and amazing way to serve our friends!

As we continue to pray for Wyatt’s healing, let us continue to remember that God has the power to do more than we can ask or imagine, so ask and act big. Thanks be to the Lord!

Ephesians 3:14-21

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
